- molecular taxonomy, phylogeny and population genetics of veterinary important parasites, mainly fish tapeworms and liver flukes of ruminants
- biogeography, determination of origin and tracing of migratory routes of invasive parasites, above all Fascioloides magna (Trematoda, Fasciolidae) – liver parasite of free-living and domestic ruminants and Atractolytocestus huronensis (Cestoda, Caryophyllidea) – intestinal parasite of carp
- design of species-specific DNA markers (e.g. spacers and subunits of ribosomal DNA, and genes of mitochondrial DNA) applicable in molecular taxonomy and diagnostics
- design of microsatellites and their application in population genetics of model parasites
